Reflections from the Newsreel 07: Flint in Perspective

By Carl Wade Thompson

Flint in Perspective

In this day and age,
land of the red, white, and blue,
how do you explain this?
Flint -- a city betrayed by all.
This is not the first time,
the city's been stabbed in the back.
It's just another card played
in a deck that never ends.
GM was the first to leave,
like a stranger in the night.
Didn't matter who it hurt,
how it affected the workers' lives.
The water is poison,
lead-filled to the core.
Government figured Blacks don't count,
especially those who are poor.
Now the crisis carries on,
still not rectified.
No one seems to give shit,
that people are sick, dying.
It doesn't matter who suffers,
as long as the bills are paid.
Don't want to shell out the bucks,
to help those in harm's way.
The anguish continues on,
pain that never ends.
The American Dream is broken,
or did it ever exist?
