Reflections from the Newsreel 21: The Last Gasp

By Carl Wade Thompson

The Last Gasp

There is no cry for this;
we've gone beyond that.
No whimpering, no screams,
the world is deaf and cannot hear.
Syrian children, sons and daughters,
lay like dolls on tile floors,
their lives stolen in a flash,
suffocated in a mass wave.
Who does this? How can they?
What kind of world allows it?
Questions, questions, and more questions.
There are no answers here.
Truth does not exist in this plane,
and there are no innocents left.
We are to blame.
All had helping hands.
In the victims' last gasps,
no one will hear.
I've lost faith in hope,
and God is not to be found.
