Haunted By His Mentor's Disastrous Ghost

Haunted By His Mentor's Disastrous Ghost

What people needed was an exhibition of maturity
in the analysis of events unfolding so said one voice --
Was it not too early to say they had safely arrived
in the land of plenty and promise?
Had their prayers not been answered?

Did people not clamor for a savior
who would usher in a new era
of hope and progress and love
and close an unholy chapter
of miseries and madness?

They said there was a savior
and liberator on the scene
because cash was oozing
out of ATMs like in the old
days before collapse ruled.

But many said apply brakes citizens --
This is not our complaint but restraint!
Did the savior bring up wise ideas before?
Can he captain our altruistic ship to prosperity
when he was part and parcel of the rot that sank it?

Some said the liberator was a disciple of the oppressor --
Wait a minute? What? The real product of a rotten system!
Were they not in that mess because of his master's inanities?
How could they exonerate him because he nurtured and midwifed
Those unprecedented offences and decadences over princely decades?

Others said optimism was their hymn because any change was something --
Didn't people want CHANGE? Why were people ungrateful and negative?
Couldn't they accept the bold declarations he had made as a new broom?
Many said if he had possibly reformed and learnt from their transgressions --
then those were confessions they didn't want to hear but see in practice!
