Abstract Ends

By Frederick Foote

Abstract Ends

At a distance
my life
and death
decisions
were abstract
black and white
logical, sensible
and certain

Now his
heavy shadow
hangs over me
throws the
final shade
dulls the light
of sensibility
cracks the nut
of certainty

The way forward is
rugged and twisted
devaluing dignity
breeding dependence,
promoting self pity,
dulling wits

Depression will be
the rod that rules me
pain the staff
that pummels me

Unknown is the truth
that claims me
with concrete certainty

This really resonated with me. It really illustrates how depression changes what life is to you.

Beautifully written. There's transformation and real truths reflected and a quality that is absolute.
