The bull and the iron

By Tomas Sanchez Hidalgo

The bull and the iron

A bull is poorly ironed:
bugles and kettledrums peek through.
A bull is poorly ironed,
while the Christians roar:
eternal heirs
to the Roman circus,
on a Friday bald
as a racket.
A bull is poorly ironed, at 5 in the afternoon.
and another, and another, and another, and another, and
The last of the bulls:
he is also poorly ironed,
so he doesn't take the bait:
lead fish plunging
into a chalky white sky
as he declines his wheels,
after handing down a tin penis ruling:
thousandth more like sixth
cadaver at the end of the afternoon.
