Life on the Fringes

By Bekah Steimel

Life on the Fringes

I had to bust through
to break them open
crushing eyes like acorns
under the full weight of my words
smash and set free
smash and set free
I tipped the scales of excess
and risked my very breath
to find balance
to discover the strength of my pulse
steady and defiant
I had to live on the fringes
lurk along the edges
and leap into the abyss
to finally find my footing
