Politics. Midnight.

By DS Maolalaí

Politics. Midnight.

it was late. I was trying to explain
in some words that even though
the job I had was what it was,
that that wasn't necessarily
my politics. my wife off
catching covid-19 from her best
friends’ boyfriend whilst explaining
why she thought they should
break up. and this girl was a friend
of my sister's through People
Before Profit, and I'd long been
insecure about how I’d come off
the occasional times that we spoke.
I'm honestly dumb about politics,
work maintenance for a property
management company, so I thought
that she thought we were enemies. at least until she
looked confused and embarrassed – tried talking
to somebody else. I said no and tried to get
the conversation back to what I was
saying – I'd been drinking since 5pm,
now it was coming toward
midnight. I just mean I agree
with you I told her eventually. but I think
that you don't agree with me. I'm not sure
why you care what I think about you she said. listen –
you seem fine you seem fine you seem fine.
