Forgiveness

By Megha Sood

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is not the act of forgetting
the piercing pain my heart went through as it counts those long moments
pain and suffering

slowly reeking through my closed palms just like the strips of the lights
falling through the cracks of
my half open the half-closed window

It longs for that ray of light and its pain seeping through
the crack of its frames broken yet still holding on
to the hinges of time
when the merciless bouts of wind have slammed it brutally
and left its marks on it
chipped and broken at places

It still remembers that fateful night when it was slapped and slammed shut
by that boisterous gale and left its frame creak every time
even the gentle north winds fail to caress and soothe its soul

Forgiveness is not about forgetting
it's about moving on.
