Slipstream

By John P. Drudge

Slipstream

Exaggerating
The essentials
And leaving the obvious
Vague
Patches of thick colour
And fixed ideas of splendor
A tale told to no one
Out of fear
The lucidity of nature
And learning to be
One’s self
Before the spring
Thaws truth
From the bones
Of loves lost
To the throes
Of cold reticence
Letting one’s pen go
Mercilessly and swift
Beyond the wandering
Of ships at sea
And every captain’s
Wistful regret
