Come walk between the aisles and see what’s new
upon the shelves, but there’s just floating faces,
a harbinger that something’s gone askew,

but you still ask if what I say is true,
and I reply to you with lessened grace,
“Just walk among the films and see what’s new.”

And though we’re full since we left the drive-thru,
emptiness shrouds the gut as fingers trace
the “poster art” of something gone askew.

Is this small thing something to ballyhoo
as others crowd around us in this place,
then shift around the shelves to see what’s new?

It’s not that I want you to misconstrue
that I won’t buy some disc despite distaste
for covers that just sit the shelf askew,

but I beg others have some point-of-view
about these artless hosts of floating faces,
but they just walk away to see what’s new
among these mirrors of art gone askew.
