That Dance

By Linda Imbler

That Dance

A line dance dividing
those in the habit of
choreographing in secret and private,
from those shaking their heads to the beat,
feet unfused from the floor,
offering an upbeat art,
a blissful rave,
untangling limbs of contradiction
in order to persuade
a reduction of chaos.

Effective transposing of untroubled music
is always possible,
when attitudes and imageries are semaphored as
the beginning of great things,
two-stepping fully away from the tyranny
of unchanging certitude
into what may put all in kindred rhythm
once we drop deceptions.
