Our Wordless State

The awkward silence of strangers
at a bus stop, counting down minutes
and seconds like bombs without a fuse,
and on the cold days our visible breath
mocks our wordless state without words,
leaving a bus driver to defuse us
without even realizing it.
Our thank yous unsaid,
which is in keeping with it all.
