War’s Futile Though!

They flew and flew away
They even did not get
A passing bow of the people
For whom they
Got blown
……..
No names to recognize
No flags lowered
For them
…
For the no one’s?
Like you and me?

But I refuse to be…
To be
To be
To be
The No One
With no ‘Tamanna’*
To share the sun With!

I refuse to be…
The unnamed man in uniform
Laying his life
For you and me!

Author’s note: These’re 20 short prose poems grouped into 10 pairs, with each pair while depicting the ‘darkness’ around us, is readying us, as if, for a brighter future and praying for it’s arrival!
*Tamanna: It’s a Hindi word, which means ‘desire/dream/ want/resolve… etc..’
It’s also the name of a Class-IV school girl, who was bombed to death, in recent past, in a village in West Bengal, by revellers, who were celebrating ‘victory’ of the ruling party, in a recent by-election. Tamanna’s brutal murder has given rise to mass condemnation, loud protests and never-ending meetings and rallies in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal.
