Of Power, Palms and Whims
That kind of business is a disservice.
Their kindness is unkind and unreal.
It’s not good for any progressive nation.
Have you heard of them and their stashes?
Everything they touch doesn’t turn into gold.
Indeed, they have gold mines, deals and cuts.
They have stashes, yet they leave behind ashes.
How did they get to that lofty level of affluence?
Every river has a start, a spring, where’s theirs?
Of course, theirs is an unearned penalty kick.
Faulted funds. The rest is a pinched conquest.
Of suspicious and treacherous entrepreneurs
and crooked sponsors in sports and literary arts.
They captured and converted the taxpayer’s money.
Why can’t they mend roads, hospitals’ sore legs and lack?
Of brutally thieving barons who seek to own people and all.
They have an insatiable hunger for power, glamour and glitz.
They act as if they own every inch of the land, the sun, the moon
and the air. As if they will loot and live for thousands of years in luxury,
as if life revolves on their palms and whims and as if they’re demigods.
