Very Bad Weather

By Lydia Manx

The skies darkened and menaced
I laid in my bed and enjoyed
The sounds of nature's rage
Crashing outside my window
The lights flickered and dimmed
I pulled the comforter up closer to my neck

Winds rattled my window pane
The rain drops fell heavily
The sounds of life and death waged outside
I kept myself warm and smiled
My home comforts me in the dark
Deep night strains at the walls

Weather makes us weak
I am sheltered by my ignorance.
