For Reasons Hidden Even Better

By Tyler Willson

For Reasons Hidden Even Better

We are sitting by a campfire
Miles from the nearest person
Surrounded only by the desert's silent presence
Staring into the flames, we share
Our deepest hopes
Our deepest fears
Our deepest needs
More intimate than anything
That can be shared by
A man and a woman.
More intimate even than touch.
Physical touch gives only temporary pleasure.
The only things touching tonight are our minds.
I couldn't feel closer if we were one being
but there is one thing I try to keep hidden.
Nothing can stay hidden with this kind of honesty,
but I hide it nonetheless.
The one thing I should or
Would like to say:
I never want to leave your side
We are the best of friends
but I want so much more.
I don't dare to tell you
So I keep it hidden somewhere inside
For reasons hidden even better.
