Across My Universe

By Mel Trent

Across My Universe

words are not flowing
their endless rain has
dried up and I'm scavenging
in muddy pools to dig them out
even when my world tilts
at impossible angles no
words come tumbling down
I pick and pull at them
plant them in rows along
the page shaping them into
sentences paragraphs stories
but they remain silent scabs
of ice over the dying river
of my fiction
