To My Muse

By Dan Mulhollen

I saw the weariness in your eyes,
sleepy, dreamy,
A woman of soft mornings
the warmth there in your smile.

And I've seen your strength,
Perseverance through unfair circumstance.
Determination - perhaps grim
And a wish that I could change that,
bringing more laughter to your life.

But I have only seen you
magnified through my own lens.
The full spectrum of your being
refracted through my own prism.
And your own dreams
expressed only though my own impressions,
My mirror reflecting my own loneliness.

So let me see you
in the fullness of your reality.
Let me explore your life and your world,
as you explore mine.
In the deepest hope
of finding enough common ground,
for us to share a future together.

A lovely thought that, sadly, was not to be.
