When I Listen More

By Sravani Singampalli

When I listen more

It's strange that I can listen more when the world is asleep.
When there is complete silence I can listen to the sound of
the food churning in my stomach. I listen to all the nighttime
singers. I listen to the chirps of crickets, the 'eh eh eh' loud,
pulsing noise of katydids and the buzzing sound of mosquitoes
actively searching for a blood meal. Sometimes I can listen to
the songs of the frogs, squeaking, gnawing and fighting sounds
of rodents and the mating song of a mouse. I can also listen to the
sound of dripping water and howling wind. While they all keep
me awake and leave me contemplating many stories, the voice
of my soul dominates them all. It is this time when I listen to
myself more and bid adieu to the hustle and bustle of daytime.
