Of A Notion
A ridiculous notion ...
Which passes like an ice-cream van.
Which passes for deep thought
in this part of the world.
Like the wind or secret envoy
on a errand of diplomacy.
Whimsy and fancy ...
It's what happens
when nothing much is to be gained.
It's what happens
while waiting for a letter to arrive.
Or a new messiah.
A silly notion, which passes
like a gentle zephyr
on its way to an undiscovered ocean.
Like an old man in a hurry.
A breathless runner
on his dash to Marathon.
Or Zeno's arrow,
which never achieves its mark.
It never gets there.
