Grandfather

By Ferris E. Jones

Grandfather

I left the bones
In the closet,
In a burlap bag.
Did anyone ever find them?
Did they call the police,
Bury the bones, says nothing,
Keep them?
There was once the thought,
That these were the bones
Of my grandfather.
I would sit on the floor
Trying to put the bones together
Maybe he could be back.
I never could make it work,
Something was missing
I didn't know where it went.
Even now, without the bones
I can't piece it together
Still, I wonder what
Happened to that bag of bones,
My grandfather.
