Seeing Other People

He said
she told him
they should see
other people

and I told him that I see
other people everyday
and it isn't pretty

and he agreed,
but said he thought
she was getting back
with her ex

which really isn't seeing
other people at all
as much as it is
revisiting the old ones
to remember why you were
so miserable in the
first place

and I asked him
if he was a rebound,

professional basketball
is full of them,

but he was adamant
that he was not a rebound
and what they had
was real as the moon
in the sky

so I told him to wait it out on the bench
until he was thrown into the starting
lineup again.
