Shadows

By Lydia Manx

Shadows

Shadows walking adrift in the world
Mirroring the creatures near
Hungry, dead eyes burning with anger
Empty souls -- surround us all
Clamoring for pieces of us
They tear at my eyes -- dark bits of nothing

Grey zones exist to hide in
Neither dark nor light
Moonscapes void of color
Sheltering these creatures of the night

We choose our demons with our needs
Creating the fires that burn us
Welcoming the tremors of pain
Beating another with our words
Lashing out at those nearby
Happy to share the misery

Grey zones exist to hide in
Neither dark nor light
Moonscapes void of color
Sheltering these creatures of the night

Pain of the world lingers on
Building ghost of past
The path clouded with apathy
Nobody wins anymore - nobody cares
Hammering against the light
Staying frozen in the here and now

Grey zones exist to hide in
Neither dark nor light
Moonscapes void of color
Sheltering these creatures of the night

Winter lingers with her cold breath
Summer a forgotten realm
Hate pulses in ice touched faces
The seasons changes betrayed
The calendar means nothing
More than days no longer remembered

Grey zones exist to hide in
Neither dark nor light
Moonscapes void of color
Sheltering these creatures of the night
