City Lights

By Bharti Bansal

City lights

Watching the city lights dim
All the homes finally lulled to sleep
It's when I remember those songs
We once danced to
Running in the sunflower fields
We had promised to stay like this forever
But look at this burning star
Making all of us run
Day and nights pass by
Yet this sadness will never be enough
For you to stop and look at me.
So I stare at your shadow
From faraway
And try to make a shape/ body out of this dimensionless facade
It doesn't hug me back
Neither do I
We keep watching each other fade
Like the dusky sky
Finally giving up at the end of the day
