At Times I Want to be Alone

By Paulette Calasibetta

At Times I Want to be Alone

A collaborative poem, authored by Paulette Calasibetta and Hossein Hakim

At times, I want to be alone, in a vast desert
of shifting sands, where silence finds its nest

I want to hear my heartbeat, the flow
of blood through my veins,

To feel my breath, my soft skin ~
to smell the nothingness.

To realize what love means when
nobody is around.

To realize the pleasure of knowing
that nobody can hurt me.

At times, I want to be alone

To wrap myself in forgiveness,
cocooned in solace

To fill hollow grief
that has no measure

Comforted in stillness,
to gather memories

Emerging with promise.
I promise myself

To sing in harmony
in concert with my soul

and let the melody
resonate on my lips

To taste how sweet
Its nectar…

At times I want to be alone

Amongst a galaxy of stars ~ to dream
forbidden dreams, left behind.
