A Wounded Dove

By Robert Bach

A Wounded Dove

The dove of peace is circling above us
Looking for a place to land

She is tired, worn out with a wounded wing
So many have dedicated their lives in her name

Isaiah envisioned swords being turned into plowshares
St Francis refused to join the Crusades

Muhammad was a prophet of peace,
Buddha spread a gospel of peace

Gandhi taught the world non violence
MLK shot for protesting a war

John Lewis jailed and beaten
Our culture has ears that do not hear

We have turned plowshares into swords
Peacemakers silenced, murdered , imprisoned

The dove of peace circling nowhere to land
We need a voice to shout from the mountain top
