When Abortion’s Not an Option
A careless flight of fancy’s prose
is quickly scribbled on a sheet
of paper. Howsoever fleet,
this cavalier encounter sows
the germinating seed that grows
with metric art. It starts to beat
until poetically complete.
And still the verse’s parent owes
it nurturance that’s due a child.
So I’ll take care, lest I’m constrained --
by seeds I planted while beguiled
by fancies that I’ve entertained --
to diaper verses running wild
until the child is toilet-trained
