Space Billionaire to Homeless Man

By John Grey

Space Billionaire to Homeless Man

Hey, homeless guy,
I bet you can’t do this:
slip on a snazzy blue suit,
board a rocket,
zoom into sub-orbital space.

Still holding out your hand?
Bet no one's ever dumped
something this good
in your sorry palms:
my satellite’s view
of the great blue ball
that’s the earth.

It’s a fact of life.
Some don't make it,
some do.
So think about it tonight
when you crawl up
in your cardboard alley hut,
or on a bench or church steps.
I’ll be grinning
at the cameras.
I’ll be saying stuff
to the reporters like,
“It’s the most amazing experience
any man can possibly have.”

Here’s three bucks.
Go buy yourself a newspaper.
The one with my face
taking up the whole front page.
It can double as a blanket
and a banner.
