In my head

By Elizabeth Agre

In my head

Believe it or not,
in my head
there are thoughts
thoughts that are quiet
thoughts that are clamorous
some thoughts are soft
while others are brutal
some are shared
others are private
a few should have never
been spoken out loud
there are thoughts of hope
alongside ones of despair
two or more of regret and anguish
even less of praise
thoughts of remembrance
thoughts I can’t recall
elated thoughts
doleful thoughts
troublesome thoughts
thoughts that solve,
believe it or not
for the most part they remain
silent and private in my head
only to be heard by me
