Boxing Harry

By Jim Murdoch

Boxing Harry

Apparently, Schrödinger’s cat,
a petulant British Shorthair,
was called Harry—Harry after
Houdini, whom he saw perform
at the Ronacher in 1902

The rest, as they say, is history.

Footnote: Viennese people saw Houdini live on stage at the Ronacher in Vienna in 1902 where a fifteen-year-old Schrödinger lived at the time. Actually, Erwin Schrödinger doesn’t appear to have ever personally owned a cat although certain sources mention a Milton and Toby. He did however own a dog.
