Babeltopia

By Jim Murdoch

Babeltopia

If it had been possible to build the Tower of Babel without climbing it, it would have been permitted – Franz Kafka

Somewherewhen there was—
  there hasmustbeen
  (I assmagine)—
a falling outway or maybeen,
an unjoinness of howways.

I sometimeways senslieved—
  needwanted to I mean—
that oncewords were my fondlings
and I rehave fondmems
of stalenows and felts longgo.

Somewherewhen though tieded binds
came nonbound, loosed, thenin lost,
misunderplaced, I asspect.

Therelast were sayings but not saidings.
Therenext’ll be a plusword for that,
the antenows in the nownow, since
everynows are towers of pastverses.

Hmpah! This is fizzled.
Nowwords missmarking when needwanted.
Rainbow-white, unmeant and dissensed;
meaningishmesses at best.

I cogsend to stop herenow.
The blending is ultrabad nowday.

Footnote: In 2040, a short-lived linguistic phenomenon known as the Blending emerged, transforming language as we knew it. This “word virus” affected the language centres of every living human, compelling individuals to combine and merge words in an attempt to convey complex emotions and ideas in a personal idioglossia. As a result, language became a fluid, ever-evolving landscape of blended terms and expressions that challenged traditional communication norms. – ‘The Blending, pandemic, worldwide (2040–2042)’, Encyclopædia Britannica, 19th edition (2076)
