A Year’s Worth of Grief

By Charlotte Cosgrove

A Year’s Worth of Grief

Its potent
Like using off milk in the fridge
Noticeable in morning tea
Cracks of crystallised milk like moving stretch marks on the surface.

The anniversary of loss
How has it been this long?
It feels like yesterday and forever.
Your yesterdays feel like movies now
When you know the credits are coming

Lessons have been taught
about living in the moment,
Holding on to those dear,
And telling others we love them,
Loving ourselves.
But, it’s only been a year –
how long will that last?
