Alcoholic Traipse

By Rp Verlaine

Alcoholic Traipse

Daylight
I wonder through park
adroitly pretending
I know where I'm going.

Besotted wanderings
voyeuristic research
surveying random strangers
to feel less alone.

But am I?
Taking long droughts
from flask she gave me.

The vile words said
echoing still
to open new wounds
like brandished swords.

As I stumble
falling hard
before flashing lights.

I get up trying
to pretend I'm sober
for the police.
