Sunlight

By Dharmpal Mahendra Jain

Sunlight

When clouds pull a veil across the sun
and conspire to darken the day,
the hope of brightness
still remains stronger.

When a reckless flock of clouds arrives,
sunlight keeps flickering,
letting the clouds spread
and thicken in their own sky.

At some point
the clouds break apart
under their own weight
and pour down, drop by drop.

Sunlight has always been there for me,
walking beside me.
Peeking through the curtains,
it plays hide-and-seek,
witnessing me.
It stays when I am happy
and when I am deeply withdrawn.
It even brings me a rainbow.

You’ll see,
the clouds will soon grow tired
of heavy rainfall,
and a thin, golden ray
will knock on my window.
It will tell
the history of shining sunlight,
reassuring me
that it will keep on gleaming
far into the future.
