Space Fog

By John Grey

Space fog is not
specks of dust
or drops of water.

It is unknowable matter
adrift in unreachable
rims of the galaxy.

Space fog is what
I rub out of my eyes
when waking to
another fearful star-date,
one of a small team
on an unclear mission,
manning a fragile vessel
in a violent arena
of angry, disparate forces.

Space fog is the future I dread --
our tiny ship
blipped into oblivion.

Space fog is the future I hope for
our particles and photons
gathering to seed.
