3 a.m. Solitaire

By Elaine Zentner

3 a.m. Solitaire

Here it goes again,
3 a.m. solitaire with wet
seeping from my eyes.
Not in rivulets,
but like acid searing my cheek.
Play the queen of hearts on the king of clubs.

Eloquent in its brevity. It captures the essence of sadness and insomnia.

Something very haunting about this poem for me. King of clubs makes me wonder about abuse.

So short, but says so much. Love the acid searing my cheek.
