Her Crooked Mouth

By John Tustin

Her Crooked Mouth

her crooked mouth holds crooked lies
black stone dark pool veils for eyes
no heat releases from her breath
eyes once flames now cold as death

her crooked mouth holds crooked lies
her body wearing drab disguise
too malevolent to be caught
her mouth and eyes betray no thought

betray no thought betray no deed
when truth is what you really need
and nothing hurts like love that’s strayed
when it’s you who’s been betrayed
