Lest You Forget
You use all your hoarded willpower
to defy the urge to forget, that
last morning of your nonage,
when the worlds collided,
waging war on innocence.
You lose a piece of you that day,
to Hate, to the insane minds
devouring everything in their wake.
You lose innocence that day,
one thing you can never salvage.
You contest the impulse to blank it all out,
putting Pain behind,
storing it in the furthest corner of your mind,
together with Refugee,
alongside Displaced and Nameless.
‘So tranquil’, you tell your inner self,
devoid of senses.
