RIP Winston Smith

The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism (Part 2, Chapter 9)

it means a loyal willingness to say that black is white when Party discipline demands this.

There’s no line between
what’s real and imagined.

What happened isn’t
what’s told

what’s told is the same:

same feeling same fear
same uncertainty same questions,

He has so many questions;

what watches the hawk circle
the field?

what watches the girl,
dress stained wet with dew?

He knows only one answer;
she’s wrong for him; so wrong

in all the right ways.
