The Hike

"...I stepped on an underground hornet’s nest..."

The Hike

“Last Saturday while on a hike at Tomales Bay
I stepped on an underground hornet’s nest,”
she says to me, “and immediately after doing so
my husband yelled ‘run.’ I got stung six times,
two stings on each side of my cheeks, whereas
my husband didn’t get stung at all.”

As I focus on the sting marks on her cheeks,
I respond, “Sorry that happened to you! but how
did your husband get away without a single sting?”

“He’s a lot faster than I am!” she answers.
“In fact, once I stopped running I could see
that he was at least 50 yards ahead of me. . .”
