In Defense of Fall Ball

Everyone knows that the best ballplayers
Play their most meaningful games in October.
Football’s reckoning with head injuries
Alarmed a nation of mothers.
The night games under the stadium lights
At the high school field
Makes the full, harvest Moon resemble a baseball,
And I can’t help but be pulled by it to play.
