No Afterlife for Being Young and Fearless

No Afterlife for Being Young and Fearless

Drinking a 0% beer
and telling myself I'm healthy now,
that all those records spinning
on deceased Saturday nights,
when the empties watched us like ghosts,
wasn't really rock and roll,
but dirges for our brain and liver cells,
while our slurred conversations cleared up
all the world's problems so well,
we never needed to remember them
the next day, only to sit alone now
with no noise except dry, sad sips,
afraid as everyone else to die.
