Love Songs Everywhere

Love songs among the 5lbs bags of potatoes
sound a lot like the local radio
The weather report congratulating itself
(figuratively of course)
for being such an apt metaphor
for passion or tears or loneliness
cold as dead air giving life to a spilled coffee
only for a burned leg to fantasize about sunken ships
the same way a twenty year old virgin dreams about sex
fixing their whisper shaped voice
and how minimum wage measures their hours
with the accuracy of an accountant finding loopholes
to bury a billionaire's tax dollars in
Then there's the washed lettuce and a produce manager
aloof enough to seem a genius
conductor ready to yell at the orchestra
in a foreign language
out of passion for music
