My Familiar Concubine

"...I try to stand steady ..."

My Familiar Concubine

Sin
comes free
and ready
legs wide open
the center meaty
and inviting

I’ve ridden sidekick
I’ve rodeoed on top
like a fool on a whirling bull
only to be tossed and later
its horn speared so deep
my blood pools along the ground
and I leave a trail
to the next ride

I try to stand steady
but sway back and forth
half dead
half a liar

The wind picks up
tears at my skin
I strap myself
back in the saddle
it comes fiercely alive
