[if on the run is where you’re from]

"...these better days we were taught about..."

[if on the run is where you’re from]

or this fear of wide open spaces or these
faded streets lined by grey fields
lined by grey houses collapsing beneath cardboard skies

these children on fire

these better days we were taught about
in high school and all of the
drugs we needed to help get us through winter

help get us through spring
through summer
through fall

all of those wasted days where we
were too depressed to fuck

all of the reasons we had
for moving to this town and then
all of the graves we dug

all of the reasons we had

for hating our parents

for laughing at their failures

and it felt pretty goddamn
good at the time
