The Hunger Moon

"...you are abundant with luxury..."

The Hunger Moon

The night is born with a silver moon
A spread of clouds like spilled congee
In gibbous phase it curves like a spoon

Like a child I chant to myself, soon, soon
The sky will unfold a feast to feed me
The night is born with a silver moon

The lunar face is no useless balloon
But a tool to bring me something tasty
In gibbous phase it curves like a spoon

The sight of stars is making me swoon
Oh, sky, you are abundant with luxury
The night is born with a silver moon

Before I know it, it will be noon
The moon white, no longer shiny
In gibbous phase it curves like a spoon

Am I but a wretched buffoon
My heart and my stomach empty
The night is born with a silver moon
In gibbous phase it curves like a spoon
