The Gentle Snow

"...mittens forgotten on the kitchen counter..."

The Gentle Snow

Quiet winter nights
have become more welcoming
of all the friends
I haven’t heard from
in years, and it would be easy
to say the future is
spring days, but it’s more like mittens
forgotten on the kitchen counter,
only for my cold hands to hide in pockets,
pretending it was all planned.
