Trench Art

"That summit once a seaside scene..."

Trench Art

That summit once a seaside scene,
amazing story of our world,
its groaning, as tectonic folds,
erupted, ruptured, threw askew.
Its waters drained through pyroclasts,
a magnum steaming, lava flow
while ammonites, their fossils, shells
lay isolate, glacial thrown.
Remember top was bottom then,
well bedded peak above a trench,
so if you meet god’s lore up there,
you’ll meet too where folk in despair.
