In the Garden of the Gods

"...We took joy in each other’s work success..."

In the Garden of the Gods

I found her in the library; she smiled and waved.
We laughed, talked for hours, unwrapped our lives.
Soon we each knew what the other would say
and vowed as one to face life’s lows and highs.

Careers and children gripped us before long.
We took joy in each other’s work success.
Our love for our children tightened our bonds.
despite their chaos and the growing mess,

For us the empty nest proved a blessing.
We traveled, read, pondered what to do next,
wrote poems, wove blankets, took dance lessons.
We both grew in ways no one could expect.

Now as health recedes, she extends her hand
to steady my way across stone and sand.
