A Love Lost

Patricia Reis is retired professor and counselor. Recently put pen to paper to scrib poetry. Her work has been selected for publication and presentation. Her artistic goal is to create words that move the heart and inspire the spirit.

A Love Lost

This soul stands where
anguish has a grip
grief is a constant companion
it sits on my shoulder

My heart renders to tender,
its broken pieces
fall into my life
I am unable to mend

These eyes veiled with tears
erupt into weeping,
anytime
anywhere ~

Without complaint
I fall to my knees
say a prayer,
‘please release this darkness’

Unaware Inattentive
time has little meaning
days come,
days go

One overcast day,
a small window opens,
fresh air enters my lungs
light enters my veins

Parts of my body tingle
pieces of my heart awaken
Today, light is here
Tomorrow is possible

Today, I can talk of this loss with no tears
today, friends exist for more than support
today, I invite good food back to my table
today, the dog has a walking partner

Life keeps moving
this process of loss
snakes like a river
with deep and conflicting currents

I surrender to its winding course

This is just lovely and very moving....and very true. I see you in every line. That makes it all the more moving and special to me. Not being a poet or a poetry critic, I have no advice or ideas for how you might add, subtract, or re-arrange anything. It tells the story perfectly as it is! And I love the photo that goes with it. Adds a visual dimension. Congratulations on being published!!

Patricia, your poem expressed the grief of loss so well. I especially liked last stanza and line. It definitely transported me back to a similar experience. Gripping!

Loved it. My favorite part is the stanza that starts "One gloomy day." It's a wonderful way to express when things ease up after a bad situation.

My heart just curled up with your words and tears came. That was beautifully written!

An eloquent, heartfelt journey from dark despair to soothing light and a community of friends. A poem worth keeping close.

Wonderfully written. I can feel your loss and pain through your words and feel your rebirth as time passes. Well done Patricia!
